Project Pulsejet is a student-led research project that is finding out what happens when volcanic ash is mixed into the combustion process of a pulsejet engine. Reason being that current propulsion systems, like turbo-jet engines, become susceptible to mechanical failure, stalling and/or seizing when flying through ash clouds. Should the results prove that a pulsejet engine works favorably in an ash-environment, the research paper will suggest implementing pulsejet engines on small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to survey volcanoes as they are erupting.
