What is FPV Drone Racing?

Welcome FPV Drone Racing! FPV Drone racing is AIAA's most recent addition to our project arsenal. With UC Merced being the epicenter of all drone research in the entire UC System, our students are taking full advantage of this unique opportunity. FPV Drone racing is a sport, in which you have full control over a drone while wearing a head-mounted display that lets you see what the drone sees in real-time. You will get the chance to build a unique FPV Drone that is capable of going 80 mph. Then you will compete against others in a series of obstacles, either through racing or through freestyle. Similar to full-size air racing, the goal is to complete a course as quickly as possible. This sport enhances the skills of a true drone pilot, giving you full control of the aircraft.
